The Kinfolk Coaching Story

I grew up in the same home and neighborhood ever since I was four years old. I know my neighbors well. I went to school with the same people from elementary school to high school. There was a sense of belonging in my community that really gave me a sense of pride in where I grew up and the people within my reach. I knew that if I did anything wrong, there would be a plethora of people who would hold me accountable because they knew I knew better.

I launched my nonprofit Kinfolk Coaching in April of 2021. I wanted to have my own nonprofit since I graduated from Columbia College in 2013. I have always appreciated helping people and grew up knowing the importance of giving back to those less fortunate. My degrees in psychology and social work laid the foundation for me and when I completed my masters at the University of South Carolina, I knew I had to put my money where my mouth is.

I have worked with many mis-represented populations but have always been drawn to the mental health field. While Kinfolk Coaching is not a therapeutic organization, I wanted to bring to light my passion for the wellness and well-being of individuals and families. What I learned from many of my positions is that people lacked skills to truly love themselves, get out of their heads and create concrete goals, and understand the definition and purpose of family.

Our programs highlight these aspects. We are a community nonprofit. We invest in our community helping graduating seniors find scholarships and trade programs where they will make great salaries. We help individuals and families understand their fears and apprehensions with vulnerably loving themselves and others. We push our community members to be productive because we know productivity yields results.

My hope for Kinfolk Coaching is that each stakeholder believes in our mission and the work that we do. My hope is that clients trust our expertise enough to allow us to serve them. My hope is that funders have a clear vision of what we bring to our communities. My hope is that organizations work with us to build strong and sustainable communities.

This is hard, hard, hard work but it's worth every late night and early morning and every penny invested because I know that our communities need us.
